Douglas, GA, October 9, 2024 – In the wake of Hurricane Helene, Coffee Regional Medical Center (CRMC) remains committed to providing essential healthcare services while also supporting staff through challenging circumstances. Despite widespread community power outages and service disruptions, CRMC’s caregivers remain dedicated to their roles and have ensured patients continue to receive the care they need.
To help ease some of the burdens faced by employees, CRMC has provided several critical services. Throughout the week following the hurricane, the hospital offered free meals to employees. Shower facilities were opened to staff and their families, and onsite laundry services were set up for those without power or water at home. Recognizing the childcare needs of employees created by school cancellations and daycare closures, CRMC provided on-site daycare services, allowing staff to focus on their work while knowing their children were being cared for.
One heartwarming moment came when the children at the daycare used sidewalk chalk to write messages of thanks to the hospital, expressing their gratitude for the care provided to their families during a challenging time.
“We are grateful to our caregivers and all they do for our patients every day.” said Vicki Lewis, President & CEO of Coffee Regional Medical Center. “Because many cannot not go home to hot meals, showers, or do laundry providing these services for caregivers was a small way we could help. We couldn’t be prouder of our team’s resilience and commitment.”
CRMC’s ongoing efforts are rooted in our purpose: To Serve, To Heal, To Save. By providing these essential services to staff, the hospital has ensured caregivers can focus on what matters most – delivering high-quality care to the Coffee & Atkinson County communities.
